I used a single light front camera right, this is because the other flash, again decided not to work. I am very happy with the results even with the lights not working.

When it is all said and done and our lives have past, what will be left behind. We are taught about the worldly things that we invest so much time and energy into, but on the day we leave this earth, it can't come with us. The material things will become old and slowly rust, and fade away, while the beauty that God has created will always stay admirable and appealing. So spend some time investing in the things that are going to change your life and that you will be able to keep with you forever.

I created this image with 110 different layers. I originally took the landscape shot, exposed once for the land and once for the sky. I then went around and took pictures of random, old, broken down machines and trash. I also took some images of my friends dog, this is one thing that many of us don't think about that will be left behind when we pass. I created the image in photoshop. My camera was set at a variety of setting for each shot that I took.

Another try at Location Lighting

I decided to try playing with the lights more and had a wonderful subject to shoot. I used a single flash, camera right with 2 room lights on. One behind my subject and one back camera right. My ISO was set to 200 with and aperture set to 4.3.

Location Lighting Part II

I took these image up on the interstate as we were coming into Grand Rapids late wed. night. I used one flash with a warming filter on it to match the temp. of the background lights. I had to set my ISO way up to 1200, which I hated because it did create noise, which was expected.

Outdoor lighting Part 1

This was my first time using the strobe/ PW combo. I LOVED IT!! I used a SB-800 shooting through an unbrella for most of the photoshoot, but for the first 2 images I took the umbrella off and to get more of a harsher light I shot the flash directly at her.

This abstract image was taken September 28th, 2009 in the Central Michigan University's photography studio by Layla Gilmore. The portabella mushroom was shot with a macro lens on my Nikon. I used a soft box back light set at about 6.2 power. This created just enough light to get great textures in the highlights and shadows. I love all of the lines that move througout the image, including the soft lines of the mushroom laying below the main subject.

This image was taken by Layla Gilmore on September 28th, 2009 in the Central Michigan University's photography studio. It was shot with a macro lens on my Nikon. I used a softbox to back light the subject to bring out the texture on the edges. Powered at 6.0 it was just enough light to make the "hairs" of the acorn glow with light. I love the combination of textures and lines that are in this image. I feel that this makes the image interesting since it a pretty neutral colored image.

This image of a portabella mushroom was taken by Layla Gilmore on September 28th, 2009 in the Central Michigan University photography studio. The mushroom was back lit with a soft box, light powered at 6.2. I used a macro lens on my Nikon to get this great abstract shot. I rubbed mustard and cumin seeds into the mushroom to give a varience in shape and texture. The light is making the mushroom glow, which is just what I had wanted.

I had my camera set on bulb for about a min. exposure. I used a blue book light, a lighter, and the blue light from the screen on the back of the flash. I really enjoy how these turned out. I love how the sky got lit up as well.

If you look closely you can see me in the middle with hair flying.

Painting with Light-JRN 420 Assignment #2 Part 1

This one turned out pretty cool to me. Same set up as the last one, but i took it a little farther. All of these images were taken late at night in the darkness of my bedroom.
This image was fun, but I do feel like it could have been in better focus.
I used the red light again from the back of the flash to trace around my face. I then moved back a little bit to add depth to the image and popped my hand and face with a blue paper in front of the flash.

This image was done using lighters and a pink paper in front of the flash.

This was a practice shot in the studio during class time. I learned that this light was too harsh for what I typically like to use. I was great to learn how to do this specific lighting set up, I have never done it quite like this. I felt very confident when I went into the studio to shoot after this class because of this lighting demonstration.

Both the 2 images above and below were taken for a magazine cover assignment in my Photo V class. All were taken in the Mount Pleasant area.

These shots below were taken with just the use of the light from the window and a black sheet on the wall. Oh, did I mention an amazing model.
